With the increasing volume of domestic waterborne traffic and the continuous growth in the number of bridges, the risk of vessels deviating from their course and colliding with bridges has significantly risen. Traditional collision prevention technologies are heavily constrained by environmental factors and suffer from limited detection ranges, making it difficult to meet the demands of modern waterway safety. To address this challenge, we propose an intelligent, proactive collision avoidance solution for waterways based on millimeter-wave radar technology. This solution integrates both bridge obstacle avoidance radar systems and vessel obstacle avoidance radar systems, creating a comprehensive, multi-layered protection framework that ensures all-around safety coverage.

The bridge obstacle avoidance radar system is specifically designed to safeguard bridge safety. It features long-range monitoring capabilities, enabling the early detection of potential risk targets 10–15 minutes in advance. The system can simultaneously track hundreds of targets, accurately calculating their speed, heading, and distance. Additionally, it supports automatic identification of hazardous behaviors such as course deviation and speeding, promptly issuing warnings through multiple channels—including VHF radio, audio-visual alarms, and LED display screens—effectively preventing collision incidents.

The shipborne obstacle avoidance radar system provides protection from the vessel side, integrating millimeter-wave radar and navigation equipment. It can automatically identify the positions of bridge navigable openings and promptly issue alerts when a vessel deviates from its safe navigation route or encounters potential collision risks. The system offers navigational support for ships under poor visibility conditions and records voyage data for accident analysis and investigation.

This solution supports the integration of automatic alarms with multi-level warning mechanisms, significantly enhancing emergency response efficiency and substantially reducing the risk of ship collisions. It effectively minimizes bridge maintenance costs and disruptions to navigation, thereby extending the service life of infrastructure facilities. The solution also boasts exceptional scalability and adaptability, making it suitable for comprehensive lifecycle protection of newly constructed bridges as well as intelligent upgrades and renovations for existing structures. Through a digital management platform, it provides operational entities with data-driven decision-making support, comprehensively elevating the level of smart infrastructure management.
